Meet Adam & Alyssa!

About Adam
Hey! I’m Adam, a sophomore journalism major at Ithaca College. On campus, I’m a section editor for Buzzsaw Magazine, the social justice-focused alternative publication at IC, and this summer I interned with and wrote for Main Line Today magazine. I’m passionate about community service…whether it’s my local, national or global community. At Ithaca I’m coordinating the efforts of our chapter of Water for Sudan (which raises money to build a well in southern Sudan, where potable water is limited) and I’m very involved with the Stone Soup Philanthropy Corps (a student version of the Tompkins County United Way). I also love volunteering with S.W.I.F.T. (“Stop Wasting Ithaca’s Food Today,” a food salvage program that provides hot meals for local families) and Habitat for Humanity. Through these organizations, I’ve learned a lot about the very real issues that dramatically affect people’s daily lives, so hopefully our blog, Pocket Full of Change, allows me to share what I’m learning about poverty, homelessness and hunger and expose these social issues and injustices with you. Please follow me on Twitter to get updates from this blog and the rest of my life, check out my LinkedIn profile or email me directly at apolaski7@gmail.com

About Alyssa
Hey y’all! I’m a sophomore journalism major and politics minor at Ithaca College. I am a writer/editor for Fuse magazine as well as a writer for the Ithacan and 360 magazine. I am also a member of Colleges Against Cancer, a student organization that raises awareness about cancer and fund-raises for the cause. I participate in Circle K, a national volunteer organization, in which I tutor students. You can also catch me volunteering at IC After Dark events, which provide safe atmospheres for students to have fun.
I think what you should really know about me though is that I enjoy being happy and making others happy. What makes me happy is knowing that I can make some kind of difference — probably a very small difference in retrospect — but some difference in the world. With the one life I get, I plan to really strive to be the change I wish to see in the world.
For me, this blog is about spreading awareness of the poverty situation in just one area of the world, in hopes of brewing people’s thoughts, and us creating a recipe for true change.
